More than 25 years, measured by build date — that’s the one hard gate in the scheme. The build date is on the compliance plate under the bonnet; if there’s any doubt, VicRoads will accept the date of first registration.

Maybe. Light modifications are usually fine. Heavier ones — engine swaps, suspension, anything outside the standard guidelines — can need a VASS engineering certificate, which we are not and don’t issue. We check your car against the rules first and tell you whether you’ll need one before you spend a cent, rather than letting you find out at the VicRoads counter.

No — a vehicle can hold full registration or a club permit, not both at once. A club permit suits a car you drive occasionally; if you need it every day, full rego is the right call and we’ll say so.

A club permit is limited use: 45 or 90 days a year, whichever you choose. You note the date in a logbook before each trip. It’s built for weekend and show driving — not a daily commuter.

Cars, motorcycles, trucks — most road vehicles more than 25 years old are eligible, and we welcome all makes. A few categories sit outside it (statutory write-offs, street rods that run through their own federation). If yours is a genuine edge case, we’ll tell you straight.

It can go straight onto a Victorian club permit. Victoria has no separate historic registration — the club permit is it. The car needs a Victorian roadworthy once it’s here, it must be garaged in Victoria, and VicRoads wants the old number plates returned to whoever issued them. Our part is — joining, the eligibility check, and the endorsement all happen online and on the spot. Two things can’t be: a roadworthy is a physical inspection, and fitting the plates means one trip to VicRoads. We’d rather you hear that from us now than feel misled later.
