Club permit plates are replaced through VicRoads, and at the time of writing (23 September 2026) a standard replacement pair costs $81.80. If you need to replace club permit plates because they are lost, damaged or destroyed, you can order them through a myVicRoads account. Stolen plates take a different route, and it starts with the police.

What it costs to replace club permit plates

VicRoads publishes a separate replacement price for club permit plates, and it depends on how many plates you need and which style your vehicle is allowed. At the time of writing (23 September 2026), the VicRoads permit fees page lists:

  • Standard, single plate — $40.90
  • Standard, pair — $81.80
  • Slimline, single plate — $105.90
  • Slimline, pair — $211.80
  • Mixed pair — $146.80

Those figures move, so check the fees page on the day you order rather than working from a number you read somewhere earlier.

VicRoads lists club permit replacement plates as their own line on the fees page, separate from the fees charged when a permit is issued or renewed. Ordering a replacement set is a plate transaction, not a new permit.

How many plates you need to replace

The single-or-pair question is decided by your vehicle's category, not by preference. The VicRoads club permit plates page sets it out:

  • Classic and historic vehicle — 2 plates, standard or slimline
  • Modified (M plate) club permit vehicle — 2 plates, standard only
  • Street rod — 2 plates, standard only
  • Vintage vehicle — 1 plate, standard only
  • Veteran vehicle — 1 plate, standard only
  • Motorcycle — 1 plate, standard only
  • Trailer — 1 plate, standard only

Our guide to how old a car needs to be for a club permit covers how VicRoads sorts vehicles into those categories in the first place.

Club permit plates carry white characters on a maroon background, with the words "club permit" along the top.

Lost, damaged or destroyed: order through myVicRoads

VicRoads keeps this one online. In its own words: "It's easy to replace your club permit plates if they're lost, damaged or destroyed. Simply log in to your myVicRoads account, pay the replacement fee and order your plates."

The plates are then posted to the address VicRoads holds for you. On the replace number plates page, VicRoads says online is the fastest route and puts delivery at seven to ten working days.

Two things are worth doing before you press the button.

Check the postal address on your record. VicRoads gives you 14 days to notify it of any change to your club permit details, and an address you moved on from is the reason a set of plates goes to the wrong letterbox. The garage address on your permit matters for a separate reason, which our post on club permit garage address rules works through.

Then check the order before the cut-off. VicRoads allows a plate order to be cancelled for a refund before 4pm on the next business day.

Stolen plates go through the police first

A theft is handled in person, not online. VicRoads asks you to report the theft to Victoria Police, then visit a Customer Service Centre with documentation of the theft — a police report or a statutory declaration — to get new plates.

The outcome is different too. Replacement plates after a theft are issued "with the next available number sequence", so the vehicle's club permit plate number changes rather than being reissued.

That matters for your own records. Anything that references the old plate number — insurance paperwork, a club file, a logbook cover — is now out of date.

Why replacing a damaged plate is not optional

VicRoads treats replacement as a compliance step. Its guidance is that plates lost, damaged, destroyed or stolen have to be replaced so the vehicle continues to meet display and readability requirements.

A club permit plate that has faded, cracked or lost its characters is doing badly the one job it exists to do. On a permit vehicle the plate is also what identifies the car as running under the scheme rather than on full registration, which our comparison of a club permit against full registration covers in more detail.

Slimline plates and the price gap

Slimline club permit plates are only available for classic and historic vehicles, and they cost noticeably more to replace. At the time of writing (23 September 2026), the fees page puts a standard pair at $81.80 and a slimline pair at $211.80.

If the original set was slimline and only one has gone, the single slimline replacement is $105.90 — still more than a standard pair. Vintage, veteran, street rod, motorcycle and trailer permits do not have the option at all.

Where Club Plate Co fits

Club Plate Co is a VicRoads-accredited club under the Club Permit Scheme. Membership is $99 a year and covers the endorsement of your permit application and your renewals.

Plates are VicRoads' side of the arrangement. A club does not issue them, replace them or set what they cost, and the process above is the same whichever approved club endorses your permit.

Questions people ask about replacing club permit plates

Can I replace club permit plates online?

Yes, where they are lost, damaged or destroyed. VicRoads directs you to log in to a myVicRoads account, pay the replacement fee and order the plates, which are then posted to the address on file. Stolen plates have to be handled at a Customer Service Centre.

How much is a replacement club permit plate?

At the time of writing (23 September 2026), the VicRoads permit fees page lists a standard single plate at $40.90 and a standard pair at $81.80. Slimline plates are $105.90 for a single and $211.80 for a pair, and a mixed pair is $146.80.

What if only one of my two plates is missing?

VicRoads prices single plates separately from pairs, so a single replacement is what you order. Your vehicle category still governs which style you can have.

Do I keep the same plate number?

After a theft, no. VicRoads issues replacement plates with the next available number sequence, so the number changes.

Can I cancel a plate order?

VicRoads allows a plate order to be cancelled for a refund before 4pm on the next business day. Renewal fees are a separate matter and are not refundable once the period has begun.

Club Plate Co endorses your club permit online — no meetings, no club nights.
